I think expanding to other platforms in a bid to increase your reach is all about timing.

Focusing on one or two areas first and getting really good at them is a great strategy to begin with - as you mentioned.

Then, once you've put in the work, grown a following, gained traction and have a consistent stream of readers/viewers/listeners to your content this, in theory, should give you more time to play with and explore other options without the fear of becoming irrelevant elsewhere.
