Member-only story
This week has been a quiet week for me in terms of work — i.e my nine-to-five.
So far I have only worked two full days, which were Tuesday and today — Thursday — as I was sick on Monday and had Wednesday booked off for personal reasons — but enough about the boring stuff.
Having these few days off has given me an insight into what I imagine the life of a writer to be like.
Space to Create
Although I was unwell on Monday it was no excuse not to write.
So once the kids were shipped off to school/daycare and my partner had gone to work I had the house to myself.
The silence was bliss. The only noise came from the sound of the birds as they went about their business on a sunny summer morning here in New Zealand and the slight rustling of the trees as a breeze passed through them. It was almost therapeutic.
Sat on the couch — after dragging my sick ass out of bed and making a cup of tea — I ran over various ideas in my head and constructed a blueprint of how my next piece of writing would go.
Having no distractions and embracing the stillness of an empty house was fantastic. Ideas came easily and I was able to piece things together with relative ease. As I began to write the words seemed to flow majestically from my mind onto the keyboard then revealing themselves on the screen.
