Each piece will bring different results. Get used to it.

We have all been there before. You finally feel you are on a roll with your writing. People are reading, responding, highlighting and clapping. You may just have figured this writing thing out.

Then Boom, you're brought back down to earth with a wallop.

Your recent pieces receive less attention than you've been getting used to. What could you have done wrong?

You’ve used the same method, formatting and processes as before. Why the lack of love?

The truth is, no one really knows why some pieces perform superbly while others get treated like a junky in a playground.

But I for one love that this happens.

That we can’t just stumble upon a secret ‘formula’ that works each and every time. Where is the fun in that?

No, having that “What the f**k?” moment a few hours after you have published a piece — that you believed was some of your best work yet — is humbling.

It forces you to adjust your approach the next time you sit down and write. To mix up your thinking. To experiment.
