Claps on Medium: Why Quantity Doesn’t Matter

Here’s why clap numbers aren’t important.

How many times have you written a piece, put a lot of time and effort into the creation process, got to a point where you are really happy with it, confident that this could be your best piece yet.

Full of high hopes.

You add a few finishing touches, attach the relevant tags and with a nervous excitement you hit the publish button, sending your little darling off into the real world to be judged by others.

Exhilarating.

But then.

A few hours go by and nothing.

Surely there must be a mistake. Maybe they are having technical issues over at the Medium HQ?

Over the next few hours, you frantically check your phone every ten minutes, excited when you see that little notification symbol illuminated.

Then.

It slowly becomes apparent that the piece you thought was going to do so well has all but fizzled out and died a lonely death with ten claps from three generous readers and if you’re lucky a few highlights and responses.

What an anti-climax.

No Need for Dismay
