Do Automated Messages on LinkedIn Actually Work?
If you’ve ever used LinkedIn, even for just a short while, then perhaps you can relate.
Every time I accept a friend or connect request from a fellow LinkedIn user my inbox seems to go BOOM almost immediately and I’m hit with a minimum three minute read in the form of an impersonal message which always follows the same old general format.
"Hi, it's great to connect. Here's what I do. Here’s how I provide value. (Buzzwords, buzzwords, buzzwords). Let me help you. Check out my website/profiles/links. Sign up/subscribe to my newsletter."
Now, I don't know about you, but as soon as I see that automated message — which are easily recognizable by the way — I'm instantly turned off.
No thanks, robot! Go find someone else to share your cold, heartless banter with!
However, should I accept a LinkedIn friend or connect request and the person actually takes the time to reach out in person, sends a 'real' message and initiates a genuine conversation, then that's when I'm more likely to respond.
A little human interaction and emotion goes a long, long way. So, remember that the next time you friend request or try to sell someone on your offers, products and services.
