Do You Know When It’s Time to Abandon Your Writing?
How many times have you had a fantastic idea for your next article/story/poem/whatever, you’ve been so excited that you got started immediately, while it was fresh in your mind, only to find yourself hit a brick wall three paragraphs in?
It happens to me on the regular and it can get pretty damn frustrating at times.
Especially when you’re near sure that you’re on to a winner with this one.
Feelings of guilt for stopping.
In the past when this would happen, I would push on through.
Try to force the words on to the page/screen.
Scrape together some half-assed ideas and try to expand on them as best I could.
Though it felt more like I was dragging the life out of them rather than expanding.
I’d try everything just to keep my piece alive. Bulk it up with quotes, add in some additional pictures and anything else that came to mind at the time.
And all because I didn’t want to accept that maybe my initial idea just wasn’t something that could be turned into an interesting 500+ word piece.
