First off, I’d like to give that woman — whoever she may be — a round of applause for being alert to her surroundings.
All too often people find themselves in situations that could have been avoided if only they had been paying more attention — and not staring aimlessly down at their phone or blurring music into their ears.
I know of the awkwardness that you were feeling, I feel it too at times.
It’s a weird sensation, you want to yell out to the person, “I’m not an attacker!” but that would only make you look like a crazy mad man.
Any time I do find myself in that situation though I do exactly what you mentioned, I smile and give a nod of the head to let them know I’m of no threat.
If they chose to keep their distance and be wary — as well they should — it’s up to them.
It’s a strange world we live in today but it is what it is.
