It's wise to remain vigilant on all platforms online and Medium is no exception.

When receiving a comment etc. from a 'high profile' member it's always a good idea to check out their profile in depth. Check name spellings - as you mentioned. Also check if they've actually written any articles and if so what topics they cover and does it align with the person they claim to be. And of course, never click any links.

For the most part, Medium has a great community full of talented and helpful writers. You just have to look out for those scammers who are always looking to exploit the system.
