I get that it can be annoying to have someone tell you what to do and can probably feel almost invasive at times, but i believe that in most cases people are just trying to be nice.

For the most part people are caring deep down and when they see someone who seems in distress all they wanna do is help. Is there perhaps another approach that would work best?

Maybe asking is the person is ok would be better instead if suggesting a smile? Just a thought.

What approach would you prefer friends and family took in such circumstances?
