I hate to be one of those pricks that says 'Medium was better a few years ago' but it was. There was much more a sense of community where people tried harder to create the best articles they could. Nowadays I feel the standards are slipping - from myself also - and there are many mediocre writers doing well off of Medium because they are in with the crowd so to speak.

But, as you mentioned, it is still enjoyable and there are still plenty of other genuine people to meet and interact with.
