I’m Excited for Sober October
I’m your typical binge drinker.
I don’t crave alcohol. I don’t long for it throughout the week. I can easily say no and go without. However, when I do have a drink, I go full tilt and really make a night of it.
For the past few weeks, on weekends, I’ve been indulging in a spot of binge drinking. Perhaps it’s the boredom of still being on lockdown or maybe it’s the change in weather — it’s Spring here in Australia — but cracking open a few beers or bourbons at the end of the week has become a regular occurrence and it’s probably time to take a break.
So, as today is October 1st, which marks the beginning of Sober October, what better time to begin this lifestyle change than now?
Sober October began in 2014 as a fundraising campaign for Macmillan Cancer Support, a U.K.-based charity that provides support to people living with cancer.
This campaign’s primary goal is raising money, but the movement also emphasizes the importance of checking in with yourself about your relationship with alcohol. — sourced from heathline.com
Sober October was designed not only to help you better understand your relationship with alcohol but also to give your mind and body a much-needed rest from the effects of long-term drinking.
