Maybe You’re Not In Curation Jail

Maybe you just need to write better content.

Over the past few days, as I’ve been scrolling through my Medium news feed — or whatever it’s called on this platform — I’ve noticed a reoccurrence of articles centred around the theme of Medium writers being incarcerated in curation jail.

Curation jail for those that don’t know is the theory that your articles are being ignored by the Medium curators for further distribution due to a previous (unknown) Medium violation.

Now, in the past, I’ve bought into this theory. I’ve even written an article or two about it (I think). I too have been a victim of curation avoidance by the distribution team and have had articles rejected which I deemed fit for promotion by the powers to be (I think).

For months, I’d write piece after piece. Try new writing styles, experiment with new writing genres, do my best to emulate those that seemed to be killing it in this arena. All to no avail.

But then, out of the blue something clicked and I was back in the game. Back in the good books and back to having certain pieces accepted for Medium further distribution.

Was it a miracle? Had I finally done my time and been released on bail? Doubtful.
