They gaslight you, lead you on, promise of adventure, success and the life of your dreams. Yet deliver on none.
In the beginning, they are smart, funny, charming and mysterious. They capture your attention, fill you with awe, get you thinking, entice fantasies of the future and what all could be.
But then over time, things begin to change. The good times and optimism once present in the beginning slowly fades away.
The goalposts keep being shifted, moving further and further afar. Every time you think you’ve finally done well, made some genuine progress, you’re greeted with a wave of disappointment. All your hard work and efforts fall by the wayside, enthusiasm sucked from your soul day after day.
Eventually, it all becomes too much.
You’ve had enough, reached breaking point and you decide to walk away. Surely, there are other opportunities out there, other ways to achieve those unfulfilled promises. So, you set out on a quest to find out, leaving your old life behind.
You dibble dabble, here and there. Dip your toe in various ponds. You join up to various groups, reach out, network and get involved.
