The Relief of Not Rushing Your Writing

Slow it down and produce better work in a happier state of mind

It’s common knowledge that to improve your writing and perhaps one day be labelled as a credible writer that you have to be putting words on that sheet every single day. Not necessarily publishing or posting every day, but definitely writing.

But the problem that I have — and maybe you can relate — is that I’m a kind of all or nothing type of person. Which is not always a good thing. It’s something that applies to all aspects of my life. Everything from writing through to my fitness.

A Recipe for Disaster

If the challenge is to work out three times per week, I’ll do seven. If ten thousand steps per day are the goal, I’ll set my tracker to twenty thousand. And when I hear that you don’t have to publish every day my immediate thoughts are I have to publish every day, twice if possible.

This way of thinking is great for about a week, maybe two, then the cracks start to appear, in the form of burnout.

Over the past few months, I have been relatively successful in posting a piece each day and there have even been days when hitting that publish button twice in the one day has been achievable. And when…
