The Year 2020 Officially Starts Today

And with it the return of a consistent daily routine.

Yes, I know, we are already two weeks into 2020 so how can the year only be starting now? And no I haven’t been living under a rock for the past fortnight.

Today was my first day back to work after the holiday period and unlike a lot of other people, I’m actually glad to be back.

In my line of work — draughting for an engineering consulting company — we are lucky enough to be granted with a long break around the festive period. Mainly because construction work quietens down around this time of the year and a lot of sites don’t reopen until mid-January — the laidback lifestyle of New Zealand at its best.

And while I do enjoy having three weeks off of work to relax and do as I please, the time away doesn’t come without its drawbacks.

Holiday Mode: A Fancy Name for Procrastination

One such disadvantage to having a prolonged period away from work over the holidays is the disruption that occurs to your daily routines.

Most of us follow a pretty consistent daily routine, outside of public holidays and special occasions, with a typical day looking something similar to this;
