It’s safe to say that for most writers the dream is to have hundreds, thousands, perhaps even millions of people read your work and are blown away by its prowess.

To have your writing evoke such feeling and emotion in the reader that each piece comes with its own public warning sticker — *Caution* reading this piece may cause you to cry/laugh/whimper/gasp/sigh/all of the above, you have been warned.

But unfortunately, not all of us will reach such a level.

And while you may never become the next Steven King or J.K Rowling that doesn’t mean you can’t keep trying.

There are a million and one different articles online all offering up advice on how to improve your writing.

Different styles to use, formats to avoid, words that catch the readers eye, you name it there is probably an article about it.

The one piece of advice that I’ve always thought most important though is to keep your writing authentic.

Develop your own style, your own voice and allow it to flourish as you grow as a writer.

So, what can you do to be more authentic?

There are two things I like to do when writing to ensure my work is as authentic as possible.
